Journey Preschool has been a ministry of the First Methodist Church in Harlingen for over 30 years. Our mission is to provide excellent childcare and education in a nurturing, Christ-centered environment.
We encourage learning through play while a child's feeling of self-worth and regard for others is placed above achievement. Classes are offered for infants & children ages 18 months to 4 years of age. JPS prides itself on being able to provide small classroom sizes in a cozy and secure school setting. We would love to give you a tour and or answer any questions you have.

Why Choose JPS
We are dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, and fun learning environment. Our building is equipped with multiple security features for your peace of mind and safety of your children. Visitors may use the intercom button (to the right of our doors) during our hours of operation.
We are pleased to offer extracurricular activities such as soccer, Tumble Tots, and ballet during the school day for interested parents. These activities are hosted at JPS & coordinated by each visiting instructor. Sign up forms are available at the front office.
Our library offers a great selection of books that the children can read and checkout. Children enjoy our spacious indoor gym to run around and play, as well as our outdoor playground with fun equipment for all ages.
Chapel days with Mr. Juan C. are filled with fun music and Bible story time every Thursday at 10 am with church pastoral staff. We love to celebrate special occasions and have fun events throughout the year such as:
- Spring "End of Year" Program
- Christmas Program
- Harlingen Christmas Parade - Ride on our JPS float!
- Easter, Thanksgiving, Valentine and parties
- Special Class Birthdays
- Mother, Father & Grandparent's Day celebrations

Medical Release Form
We require a medical release form in order to enroll. Please have Dr. complete, sign, & return to JPS along with a copy of current immunizations.
JPS Infant Program
We are excited to welcome you to our licensed infant care program here at Journey Preschool!
We have remodeled and equipped our Infant room to meet State Licensing space, cleanliness, and safety requirements. All of our staff are trained in CPR and in the specific care needs of babies in this age range. We know you want to ensure your children are receiving the best possible care and JPS strives to provide the most nurturing and safe environment possible for your little one(s). One advantage to our infant program is the opportunity to seamlessly transition your child to our Preschool program once they become 18 months of age.
What To Expect:
- Parents/Guardians will provide diapers, wipes, any rash-prevention ointment/creams, bottles, burp clothes and any other items specific to your infant.
- JPS Staff will communicate when supplies are low/or needed to replace.
- JPS will gladly accommodate refrigerated storage of breastmilk as requested.
- Parents/Guardians and JPS staff will use an "Infant Gram" sheet for daily use to communicate care-giving activities and baby well-being.
Journey Day Camp
Journey Day camp is a safe and fun place for children ages 5-12 to “hang out” for the summer. Campers will have the opportunity to engage in numerous FUN activities that involve both PHYSICAL exercise and MENTAL exercise! With a focus on weekly themes, kids will engage in science experiments, art projects, sports games, Bible lessons, and social activities that will leave them ready to come back for more! Journey Day Camp starts in May and runs Weekly through August.

Christina Vasquez, JPS Director
About Me: I was born in San Benito, TX; however, I was raised all my life in Harlingen, TX. I have three beautiful and amazing children. I am a former local business owner and have been with Journey Preschool for six years. My roles at Journey have consisted of a Classroom Teacher, Programs Coordinator, Assistant Director (in which during that time acquired my Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Child-Care Licensing Division Certification), and am now honored to have the position of Director.
I have a strong belief in Jesus Christ and carrying out our preschool philosophy. Ensuring JPS children are in a Christian environment and learn about Christ’s teachings in a nurturing setting is important to me as a Director. My chosen prayer would be that I may be led by His wisdom, knowledge, and will. I am always eagerly looking forward to all the amazing things God has in store for our preschool.
