We will be creating Chrismon ornaments to adorn the Christmas trees in the Sanctuary.

Let’s gather to shift our attention to Jesus this Christmas Season by offering our talents and preferences; some will cut out felt, some will bead, some will paint or hot glue, and some will finish off the ornaments.

Chrismons are Christian symbols used as holiday decorations. The word is a blend of Christ and monogram (meaning symbol or sign). They are typically displayed on Christmas trees during Advent and Christmas to focus attention on Jesus rather than secular holiday traditions. 

Colors and Design

• White: Stands for purity, perfection, and holiness.
• Gold: Stands for majesty, glory, and royalty.
• Materials: Often handmade from paper, beads, Styrofoam, or felt.

Common Symbols

• Chi-Rho (XP): The first two letters of "Christ" in Greek.
• IHS: The first three letters of "Jesus" in Greek.
• Alpha and Omega (α and ω): Represents Jesus as the beginning and end.
• Fish (Ichthys): An early sign used by believers to identify as Christians.
• Crown: Stands for Jesus as the King of kings
